President Justin Raithel Demotion June 27, 2024
The Demotion of President Justin Raithel was held at the Folsom Community Center on June 27.
Master of Ceremonies was Past President Monika Reyes. Monika started the festivities by levying fines. She showed photos of famous people and the audience was asked to guess who in the club looked like them. When the audience guested correctly, she showed the member and fined them.
She then presented a fashion show of the various costumes that President Justin wore during the past couple of Rotary years. Paul Bonaventure was dressed as a chicken as Justin wore a chicken costume to the club Halloween Party in Past President Ryan Jantzen's term. Matt Sundermier had bananas taped to him to represent Justin's banana button down shirt that he wore to his first meeting as President. Josh Brannan's outfit was "I am Kenough", a take on the furry tie-died sweatshirt from The Barbie movie. Justin sported the sweatshirt at the club one night. Ramesh Dontha was dressed as a gnome as Justin did the same rowing the boat in the Dragon Boat races.
Monika turned the meeting over to President Justin. Justin recapped many of the projects that the club did during the 2023/2024 year. The list included the Greenhouse at Black Miners Bar, Powerhouse Remodel, Dictionary Project, Dragon Boat races, and Fifth Thursday meeting excursions, just to name a few. Justin said a number of times that "Rotary is there. Rotary showed up cuz that's what we do".
President Justin then presented certificates to members for their service during the 2023/2024 Rotary year as follows:
- A Paul Harris +1 pin to Brent Sundahl as Volunteer of the Year.
- To Toby Magarion, Leap of Good Faith for serving as Vocational Director.
- A Paul Harris to Matt Sundermier and Newbee of the Year for serving as Special Events Chair.
- To Ryan Jantzen, Assistant District Governor, Vampire of the Year for blood donations.
- To John Baciocco, Best Fluffer for getting speakers for our meetings and introducing them.
- To Charlie Grows. Bar Keep and Team Player of the Year for serving as Club Service Chair.
- To Jim Padgett, Work Horse for the Club, for service as Secretary.
- To Ramesh Dontha, Mr. Yes, for serving as Rotary Foundation Chair and getting all the members to say "Yes" when asked to donate to the Foundation making us an EREY Club.
- To Olga Garton, Behind the Scenes Award, for serving at Treasurer and having a 43.6% attendance record.
- For Christie Watrous, Miss Process Award, for serving as Membership Chair.
- For Paul Bonaventure, Mr. Rotarian Award, for serving as Folsom Rotary Foundation President.
After the awards, President Justin handed the microphone to incoming President Ramesh. Ramesh introduced his Board of Directors and Committee Chairs. He then concluded the meeting.
Fireworks Stand
The Rotary Club of Folsom and Folsom Rotary Annes staffed a fireworks stand again this year at the corner of E. Natoma and Blue Ravine in the Raley's Shopping Center. During the six days that the stand was open, both organizations posted photos on Facebook. If you did not see the photos, I copied them from Facebook.

Rotarian Irv Dickson
Irv Dickson has not been to meetings for several months. Irv married Jan recently and they have been living in Kentucky. Irv and Jan were here in Folsom from late June and are leaving for Kentucky before our first meeting in July. Irv had an open house on June 30. A few of us stopped by to say hello and to say good-bye to a real Rotarian as he is moving to Kentucky.
For those of you who do not know Irv, he joined the club in 1974. He was President in 1985 and served as International Director in 2002 and 2004. He was also on the District RYE Committee for several years. He and his first wife, Barbara, hosted many exchange students. Irv is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Rotary Foundation Benefactor. If you asked Irv how he is, his answer was always "Near perfect". Irv, we bid you good wishes with your move to Kentucky, we will miss you.
